Independence Support (ISL) is looking for compassionate, confident and experienced Rapid Response Crisis Workers to join our specialist team supporting people experiencing mental health crises across Cheshire and the Wirral.
Our Rapid Response team provides vital mental health crisis support within A&E departments, working alongside NHS services to ensure people receive safe, compassionate and professional support while waiting for an appropriate mental health placement or treatment.

About the Role
As a Rapid Response Crisis Worker, you’ll provide practical, emotional and observational support to individuals experiencing mental health crisis.
Working across hospital and community settings, your responsibilities may include:
- Providing one-to-one support and supervision for individuals in A&E awaiting mental health acute beds
- Delivering observation services in line with NHS requirements
- Supporting and escorting patients being transferred between wards or hospital sites
- Driving secure vehicles when required
- Providing additional support to staff on acute inpatient mental health wards
- Delivering community outreach to support step-down from hospital or help prevent hospital admission
- Working alongside NHS colleagues and other professionals to provide safe and effective support
- Responding calmly and professionally to complex or potentially challenging situations
Working Across Cheshire & The Wirral
The Rapid Response service operates across four hospital sites:
- Leighton Hospital, Crewe
- Macclesfield General Hospital
- Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral
- Countess of Chester Hospital
We aim to assign staff to their nearest hospital where possible. However, flexibility to travel between sites is required to meet the needs of the service.
Travel expenses are reimbursed from your nearest base, in line with company policy. Site parking expenses are also reimbursed.
A full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle and valid business insurance are essential for this role.
Working Pattern
We’re recruiting for both Full-Time (37.5 hours) and Part-Time (23.5 hours) positions.
The service operates across a 7-day rota, including day and night shifts, with an on-call responsibility once a week.
Current shift patterns include:
- 07:45 – 20:00 – Day shift
- 10:00 – 22:00 – Day shift
- 19:45 – 08:00 – Night shift
Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the service.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for people who are compassionate, adaptable and confident supporting individuals experiencing mental health crisis.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working in mental health or a related support setting
- Experience supporting people with complex or challenging needs
- The ability to remain calm and professional in potentially difficult situations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The flexibility to work across different hospital and community environments
- A genuine commitment to providing person-centred support
You must also:
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Have access to a vehicle
- Have valid business insurance
- Be aged 21 or over
- Have held a driving licence for at least 12 months
