Independence Support Ltd (ISL) is looking for compassionate and dedicated Community Mental Health Workers to join our growing mental health crisis support team in Macclesfield and across East Cheshire.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about supporting people experiencing mental health challenges, emotional distress and crisis situations. You will be part of a community-based service providing person-centred, recovery-focused support that helps people feel safe, build resilience and reconnect with their communities.
Working across our Crisis Hub and Community Outreach Service, you will provide practical and emotional support to individuals when they need it most – helping people access the right support at the right time.
About the role
As a Community Mental Health Worker, you will support adults experiencing mental health difficulties through one-to-one support, outreach visits and community-based interventions.
Your role will include:
- Providing compassionate, person-centred mental health support to individuals experiencing crisis or emotional distress.
- Delivering one-to-one wellbeing conversations, crisis interventions and recovery-focused support.
- Supporting individuals to develop coping strategies, safety plans and wellbeing plans.
- Carrying out community outreach visits, including supporting people in their homes and local community settings.
- Facilitating wellbeing activities and group sessions that promote recovery and social inclusion.
- Working in partnership with NHS services, Crisis Resolution Teams, GPs, social care teams, emergency services and voluntary organisations.
- Supporting people with practical challenges including housing, finances, benefits, employment and community connections.
- Supporting individuals transitioning from hospital, crisis services and emergency departments back into the community.
- Identifying safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately to risks.
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to service development and quality improvement.
About you
We are looking for people who are passionate about mental health support, recovery and helping people live fulfilling lives within their communities.
You will ideally have:
Essential skills and experience
- Experience supporting adults with mental health needs, emotional wellbeing needs or complex life experiences.
- A good understanding of person-centred and recovery-focused approaches.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to remain calm, compassionate and supportive during challenging situations.
- An understanding of safeguarding and risk management.
- Flexibility to work across a 7-day rota, including evenings and weekends.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across East Cheshire.
Desirable experience
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Mental Health or equivalent.
- Experience working within crisis support, community mental health or social care services.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
- Mental Health First Aid, ASIST Suicide Prevention or similar training.
- Personal or professional experience of recovery-focused support.
